Sail-World.com : Peyron reveals crew for Jules Verne Trophy

Peyron reveals crew for Jules Verne Trophy

'Banque Populaire'
The Jules Verne Trophy will be taking place this winter with Loick Peyron at the helm of the giant trimaran Banque Populaire. Peyron has also been entrusted with the mission of conducting a new record campaign with all the help and expertise of a strong and united Team. A beautiful harvest of reference times in hand, the skipper of Banque Populaire V reveals today, not without some pride, the names of the crew members who will work this winter in shaping a great story.

Sailor with many capes-crosses, a famous personality in the offshore sailing world, if Loïck Peyron has numerous victories solo-handed, starting with three victories over The Transat, he is never happier than attended by a crew. Thus, since June 19, which is the official date of his arrival at the helm of the Maxi Banque Populaire V, and this first victory on the Record SNSM reference time, navigations follow on, enabling the final biding of the crew in the perspective of excellence.

Exceptional skipper, Peyron primarily defines himself as a conductor: 'A conductor must know how to listen, a lot, and if possible be extremely well supported by all soloists. A crew needs to be guided, to play well together; they need to look in the same direction. My job is to regulate the rhythm, an atmosphere, a confidence. To have a great orchestra, you need good musicians. The music is beautiful, the instrument is incredible. '

A group selected in the continuity: Rather than making a revolution, it is on a solid base that the skipper from La Baule has chosen to rely on. Experienced, competent, humble and deeply human, the sailors who will play the symphony of the world tour this winter know the setting, and have, without exception, been practicing it for some time, the majority having been part of the attempt around the world a few months ago. Thus, Frederic Le Peutrec and Yvan Ravussin will slip on their watch leader caps, as Jean-Baptiste Le Vaillant, who, after the memorable North Atlantic crossing, is back on board for a first loop.

Sharps helmsmen / trimmers, Kevin Escoffier, Xavier Revil, Emmanuel Le Borgne, the British Brian Thompson, the boat captain Pierre-Yves Moreau, or Thierry Duprey du Vorsent, already members of the crew during the tour the Mediterranean, will be key players in the adventure; when on their side, Florent Chastel, Thierry Chabagny and Ronan Lucas (Director of Team Banque Populaire), will play the tightrope on the foredeck. Finally, to draw the nicest wake, Loïck Peyron will rely on the science of the Spanish navigator, Juan Vila, embarked on the attempt, and that of Marcel van Triest, ashore router.

Appointment with the Globe: A cast that is ready to tackle an attempt on the Jules Verne Trophy in the coming weeks, a first for the skipper of the Maxi Banque Populaire V which has never had the opportunity to challenge this famous around the world record. With a reference time of 48 days seven hours 44 minutes and 52 seconds to beat, the theoretical objective is fixed. But no question of relying on Loïck Peyron to play the medium:

'This beautiful ship and her crew hold the 24 hours record. If we divide the distance of a world tour by this time of 24 hours, we arrive at a totally indecent time... utopia is there, the reality lies between here and there ... If there's one thing the sailors are confident in, is that they are sure of anything '. That's said, it’s now time for the most beautiful sailing.
