Sail-World.com : RS100 EuroTour in L’Estartit

RS100 EuroTour in L’Estartit

The RS100 EuroTour event in L’Estartit, Spain began day three amid hot and sunny conditions and with no wind, the sailors were held ashore hoping for the normal lunchtime breeze to appear before a 14:30 cut off. The fleet were eventually released into a slowly building force 2, which had shifted to the South East to provide a different challenge.

The fleet started with an individual recall, M Harrison and S Childs returning feeling guilty. The fleet split to both sides of the course, Paul Childs working the middle, Dave Gorringe leading the left and Lars Holm on the right. Paul Childs broke clear followed by Gorringe and Christer Bath.

Simon Childs found some pace downwind to catch up and press Gorringe at the first leeward mark. Both did poor roundings but Childs broke through into second. The second beat saw Paul Childs extend his lead while Childs Senior created a gap to a safe second. The fight for third was close, with Giles 'light-weight' Chipperfield passing Gorringe at the end of the off wind finish leg to take third, behind the Childs duo.

This left no time for further racing, 10.2 results were Paul Childs (GBR), followed by Simon Childs (GBR) and Christer Bath (SWE) as the top three.

8.4’s were led home by Michele Giorgini (ITA), followed by Lars Holm (DEN) and Michiel Geerling (NED).

Prizes were awarded in beautiful sunshine with pastries and Cava at the fantastic Club Nautic Estartit, who did a fantastic job of hosting the visiting RS sailors. Overall Euro Cup winners for the series were also awarded to Paul Childs (10.2) and Lars Holm (8.4).
