'European Open Youth Match Racing Championship 2011'

Eurosaf Open Youth Match Racing Championship is organised by Eurosaf, in conjunction with the Society Canottieri Marsala and Associazione Match Racing and the Federazione Italiana Vela. This is an ISAF Grade 2 event for sailors under the age of 22 on 31st December 2011. The event was officially launched last night, 22nd September 2011.
The 12 teams participating represent 11 nations: two Italian teams in addition to teams from Great Britain, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, France, Slovenia, Sweden, Russia, Denmark and the United States.
Marco Pedrieri and John Friend, respectively the President and Secretary General of Eurosaf, attended the opening ceremony.
Mr Cavallucci, Federal Councillor, said: 'the participation of 11 nations represents an achievement made possible thanks to the support of the two yacht clubs, who offered hospitality to all the participants. This event should be a drive to the format of match racing that is appreciated by athletes and regatta organizers though, at this time, is suffering from a lack of attention.'
The President of the Province of Trapani, Mimmo Turano, said: 'following the hosting of the Louis Vuitton Acts in 2005 in Trapani, the Province has been supporting important events in order to promote the territory through sailing and through all the activities connected to our wind and sea.
In fact, just a few days ago, Trapani hosted the Extreme Sailing Series with the spectacular 40 feet catamarans that sailed in the harbour in front of the public in a stadium racing format.
Marsala has a long tradition of sailing and important sailing champions.
Recently it has been hosting important events such as the 'Primavela' and the Italian Under 16 Championship, in 2010, and every year the International Winter Cup is held in the Canottieri Yacht Club in the month of February.'
