Gippsland Lakes Yacht Club based at Paynesville is staging a Race Week (GLRW) next year (2012) starting on April 4 and continuing until April 9.

The week which is modelled closely on the very popular Airlie Beach and Hamilton Island Race Weeks is the first of its kind to be held on the Gippsland Lakes. Entries from all types of sailboats are being taken. Event organiser Stuart Loft says all will be accommodated from small sailing dinghies to high performance racing machines.

Due to the fact the event is held during the Easter break emphasis is on family involvement, with off water activities playing a major part of the week.

As a part of the shore based activities the club will be holding local seafood 'long lunch' on the lay day, which will be held on Good Friday, as well local vineyards will showcase our regions finest wines.

Racing will be held in four areas around the Paynesville area, including Lake King and Lake Victoria. Shore based spectators will be able to view the racing easily.

The week of sailing will be a mixture of short 'around the buoys' racing and long distance 'passage' races. The famous Easter Classic 30 race will be part of the point score, this race dates back at least 50 years and is always a popular event with sailors.

Classes of boats which have shown interest include Etchells, J24, many Catamaran fleets, as well as trailer sailers and high speed ocean Multihulls.Cruising sailors are also very welcome to take part also.

For further information please phone Stuart Loft 0488 055 462 or online at www.sailglyc.com and follow the links to the GLRW page.
