The Royal Prince Alfred Yacht Club based on Pittwater will host its second annual ‘Alfred’s Festival of Sail' over the weekend of 5-6 November 2011.

The Alfred’s, as the Club is colloquially known, welcomes all yacht owners whether racing or cruising to come and join in a program of events which aims at ensuring fun & friendly competition both on water and ashore afterwards back at the club.

A key point of difference for this event is the inclusion of a fun, relaxed Cruising Rally for non racing yachts. The Alfred’s has designed the Rally to attract not only local cruising people from around Pittwater but also visitors from Sydney Harbour, Gosford & elsewhere who will be attracted by the rally as a reason to cruise to Pittwater, utilise the Club's modern marina and clubhouse facilities and enjoy the week-end.

One Design Sprints will also be part of the two day program - Alfred's Festival of Sail -  Tom Spithill   Click Here to view large photo

The format for the week-end’s festival includes two short offshore point score races, two inshore non-point score races, One Design sprints and will also play host to the high performance sports boat Melges 24 and 32 class East Coast Championships, a special feature of the Festival.

Vice Commodore Ian Audsley, one of the principal organisers of the event said, 'We encourage all peninsula sailors as well as those from other clubs further afield, both racing and cruising to join us for two days of great fun & friendly sailing on the magnificent waters of Pittwater and the Broken Bay estuary and enjoy the regatta atmosphere and camaraderie ashore back at the Alfred’s after sailing each day.'

Casual Marina berths will be available for all visiting yachts participating in the Festival of Sail and special membership packages will be available for those participating in the event and wishing to join the Club.

The event has been organised as a precursor to the Club's signature event the Pittwater & Coffs Harbour Regatta commencing on 2nd January 2012.

It is intended that the Alfred’s Festival of Sail will become a regular annual event on the RPAYC sailing calendar.
