International 14 World Championships – High winds hamper racing

International 14 World Championships are being held from September 3rd through to the 18th and is hosted by the Weymouth and Portland National Sailing Academy (WPNSA). High winds continue to hamper racing.

The fleet have been shore based since Saturday and the race committee were forced to cancel today’s racing due to 44kt gusts being recorded at the Weymouth and Portland National Sailing Academy. With the forecast looking more favourable tomorrow, the fleet remain hopeful of commencing Race two.

Spirits are still high as the fleet continue to amuse themselves with shore-based activities. Yesterdays raft building competition produced a variety of chipboard vessels as many of the fleet’s talent boat builders pitted themselves against one another. Surfboard shaped designs prevailed over Canadian canoe designs, with only one vessel sinking.

The Artemis 2011 International 14 World Championships is kindly supported by Artemis, Oceanair and Magma.
