Humpybash, organised by Humpybong Yacht Club at Woody Point, Brisbane is being held from 24 to 25 September 2011. Top sailors from the Wide Bay to northern New South Wales will take part in the fun, excitement and keen racing.
Sailors from veterans to junior level are being invited to take part in Humpybash on the waters of Bramble Bay in a regatta program designed to keep competitors on their toes and provide keen racing for competitors and a colourful spectacle for the public.
The annual event attracts the cream of Queensland off the beach sailors and marks the start of the Humpybong sailing season for 2011-2012.
A range of solo and skipper and crew dinghy classes will attend as well as high speed catamarans including the highly competitive one person A class plus Nacra, Hobie, Taipan, F16 and F18 and other popular classes.
Humpybong race officials and volunteers are keen to set the best possible courses for competitors this year so skippers and crews will need to be on the alert and ready to take advantages of changing wind and wave conditions to stay ahead of their rivals.
The racing may include a series of buoy marker gates through which competitors must pass on their windward and reaching legs on Moreton Bay.
Humpybong Yacht Club spokesman Russ McDonald said 'The race program we are scheduling will mean skippers and crews will have to sail strategically around the course taking advantage of racing rules, wind shifts, tides and wave conditions rather than relying on pure boat speed to outsail their competitors.'
'A great weekend’s racing is promised and the large number of competitors will mean a wide variety of exciting, colourful and high tech craft manoeuvring on Bramble Bay and lined up for spectators to inspect on the foreshore at Woody Point.' Mr McDonald said.
He said anyone with a dinghy or catamaran is welcome to enter the event but they must prove they have the required personal liability insurance and a Yachting Australia silver card.
As well people interested in entering sailing as a cheap and affordable recreation and sport can learn all they need to know by speaking to club officials and competitors over the weekend.
