Anna Tunnicliffe (USA) has moved to the top of the Women’s Match Race Rankings for the first time whilst Ian Williams (GBR) maintained top spot in the Open Match Race Rankings.
The American broke into the top ten in the Women’s Rankings in December 2009 and has steadily worked her way up to take top spot.
Meanwhile in the Open Rankings another good performance by Williams at the sixth stop of the World Match Race Tour in St. Moritz, Switzerland strengthened his position as World number one.
Open Rankings Ian Williams (GBR) regained the World number one spot in August 2011 after last holding it in June 2008, and the Brit posted a third place finish in the World Match Race Tours sixth stop in Switzerland to solidify top spot whilst Francesco Bruni (ITA) remains number two after coming seventh in St. Moritz.
Torvar Mirsky (AUS) overcame Pierre-Antoine Morvan (FRA) in the St. Moritz Final and the victory moves the Australian up to number three. Morvan’s second place in Switzerland and regatta victory at the Grade 1 SOPOT Match Race in Poland pushes him up to a Rankings best of number five.
Laurie Jury (NZL) has moved from number 27 to a rankings high of number 14 after some impressive results throughout August. The New Zealander racked up victories at the Grade 2 Oakliff International Match Race in New York, USA and Knickerbocker Cup at Manhasset Bay, USA. Jury also finished second at the Grade 2 International Match Race for the Detroit Cup and Chicago Match Cup.
Australia’s Jordan Reece won the International Match Race for the Detroit Cup to move 14 spots up the rankings to number 34 and Chicago Match Cup winner Bill Hardesty is number 67.
One of the biggest climbers in the rankings is Poland’s Rafal Sawicki who moves from number 94 to number 55. The Polish Match Racer has been sailing on the Polish Match Race Tour and recorded a fourth place in the Grade 2 Act 8 in Olsztin after coming second in the Grade 3 Act 6 in Gizycko.
Women’s Rankings The top ten in the Women’s Rankings have shuffled around after a busy period of Women’s Match Racing competitions which included three Grade 1 events in Italy, Sweden and USA.
Anna Tunnicliffe won the Grade 1 Buddy Melges Challenge which was held in Sheboygan, USA, the venue of the 2011 ISAF Nations Cup which takes place from 13-18 September. The victory meant that Tunnicliffe overhauled Claire Leroy (FRA) to take the top spot for the first time since her first inclusion in the Women’s Match Race Rankings in 28 March 2006.
Camilla Ulrikkeholm (DEN) won Lysekil Women’s Match in Sweden and her victory moves her from number 22 to number 15. The Dane overcame Australia’s Nicky Souter who has moved up one place to number five after her second place finish in Sweden and third place finish at the Buddy Melges Challenge.
Germany’s Silke Hahlbrock won the Grade 1 Trentino Women’s Match in Italy and her victory over Vesna Dekleva Paoli (SLO) has pushed her from number 20 up to number 13.
One of the biggest movers was Poland’s Katarzyna Tylinska whose fourth place finish in Trentino handed her some significant movement up the rankings as she jumped from number 156 to number 67.
