The RYA Olympic Classes National Ranking Series 2011 is set to get underway with entries now open for two weekends of Olympic classes sailing on the 2012 waters of the Weymouth and Portland National Sailing Academy.

The first weekend of racing will be held on 17-18 September and will welcome boats from across six of the Olympic and Paralympic classes - the SKUD, 470, Finn, 2.4mR, Sonar and 49er.

Due to the clash of the September event with the RS:X European Championships and the UKWA Series event in Christchurch, the UKWA event at WPNSA on the 1-2 October will now be used for the RS:X 9.5 men and 8.5 Open classes. Entry for this event is via the UKWA website.

The final weekend for all seven Olympic and Paralympic classes will commence on the 15-16 October and will conclude what has been a highly charged season of Olympic Classes racing.

A compulsory event for Skandia Team GBR sailors, the two weekends of racing offer the perfect opportunity for the nation’s finest sailors to hone their skills and knowledge of the 2012 venue, whilst also providing the chance for aspiring stars of the future, local club sailors and class stalwarts to test their skills against the best of the best.

Barrie Edgington, RYA Olympic Development Squad Manager, commented: 'The Olympic Classes National Ranking Series provides a unique opportunity for Britain’s budding Olympians to race on the Olympic courses, young sailors to experience racing in the Olympic Classes and all sailors to enjoy quality racing at a world class venue against their peers and world class sailors. Remember to get your entry in early to avoid late entry fees!'

As well as competing on the world class 2012 waters of Weymouth and Portland, RYA grants and qualification for key 2012 international regattas are also at stake.

Entries are now being accepted online for the RYA Olympic Classes National Ranking Series at the RYA Racing Events website, with discounts available for those booking both weekends in advance.

To avoid a higher late entry fee, entries must be made by Monday 12 September for the first weekend and October the 10th for the second weekend. Alternatively enter both weekends for a further reduction!

Entries for the UKWA event on the 1-2 October for all RS:X 9.5 men and 8.5 Open classes sailors can be made online.
