Montreal sailors dominated the Gold Fleet competition on day one of Canada’s 2011 Mobility Cup Tuesday.

Pierre Richard of Association Quebecoise de Voile Adaptee won both races at the event hosted by The Royal Hamilton Yacht Club and the Burlington Sailing & Boating Club.


Marc Villeneuve, Hafsa Chaar and Rene Dallaire, also of AQVA, followed him in first day action at the 21st annual
event for disabled sailors.

Meantime, Genevieve Wickham of Sailability/Royal Perth Yacht Club of Perth, Australia won two races and was second in two others to lead the Access Liberty Fleet.

Sara Cooper of Alberta, Canada, won both races to lead the Silver Fleet under near perfect conditions on Hamilton
Harbour which featured steady westerly winds and few course changes.

More than 60 disabled athletes from five countries including Australia, the Netherlands, the U.K., U.S.A and Canada are competing in the event.

Also, in the 2.4 MR North American championships staged at the same time, Allan Leibel of the National Yacht Club has won six of eight races to lead by 14 points with one day of racing to go.
