Francis Joyon's maxi trimaran IDEC has flipped during his solo attempt to break the Atlantic west to east crossing record held by Thomas Coville onboard Sodeb'O which was set in July 2008.*

Joyon had just begun his attempt and was only fifty miles from Newport when the incident happened.

The American tug Miller Marine Service (over 100 ft) joined the maxi-trimaran IDEC to assist with the recovery operation.

Joyon helped the crew of the tug and immediately detached the rigging. It is important to release the platform,' explained Christophe Houdet, coordinator of ground assistance. 'An initial examination by submarine will see if we can consider the recovery of the mast and the boom.'

The tug arrived at the zone at 3:30 p.m. (French time) after leaving Port Jefferson, a small port on the north side of Long Island in New York.

The plan is to tow the trimaran to Newport, Rhode Island.
