Burnham Week gets underway August 27

'Burnham Week 2010'    Oliver Southgate

Burnham Week 2011 will get underway on Saturday 27 August and everything is now in place for a great week of close racing.

So far, the white sail cruiser class, the Squibs and the RBODs are looking the busiest classes with around ten entries each and numbers good all week. There are seven entered for the prestigious Town Cup for class one on the last Saturday with some of the top boats on the East coast entering it should prove to be excellent sport.

It’s always an exciting time as there are so many fleets all competing around the same water. There’s flexible racing for all to enjoy, with one to eight days of racing in the varied waters of the Crouch and Roach. Racing takes place out of the river for bigger boats and variety is added by having some up river starts for fleets on different days.

The first weekend sees a dinghy regatta with starts at the Burnham and Creeksea Sailing Clubs.

All the yacht clubs offer a variety of entertainment in the evenings, which surely must suit every taste. As the last major regatta of the year, it’s a must in all local sailors’ diaries.

There’s plenty to do in the town too with the Burnham Museum, stalls on the Quay over the first weekend and an Art Exhibition. The last Saturday ends with a stunning firework display over the river Crouch in the evening.

Entries are accumulating on the website and it’s a simple process if you have yet to enter. Help is on hand and it is simply a click or two of the mouse. Just go to the Burnham Week website for all the information you need.
