After a short break, Aon Racing is back into sailing at the Sopot Match Race in Poland. This regatta is sailed in boats that are extremely hard to handle. They are 30ft long with big spinnakers and running backstays in a setup that is usually for boats with 6 or more crew. With only 4 crew on board for this regatta there is plenty on for the crew.
Unfortunately we didn’t get the flying start we were looking for on day 1 of racing, posting 3 wins from 7 races. It was a tough day of racing, with enormous wind shifts and umpire calls both coming out of left field to provide challenging racing for the crew. The highlight of the day was a victory over past Americas Cup helmsman and Polish local, Karol Jablonski.
There are two round robins scheduled before a 4 boat semi finals, so the team will have to lift their game tomorrow to make the semi finals.
