Macau announces International Yacht Import and Export Fair

Last Wednesday 3 August a press conference at the Rocks Hotel, Macau, announced the Macau (China) International Yacht Import and Export Fair to be held at the presently-being-renovated Fisherman’s Wharf Marina right in front of the Rocks Hotel and no more than a stone’s throw from the Macau ferry terminal.

Organisers of the show include the China Ocean Aviation Group Corp, China Automotive Industry Int Corp, Fujian Auto China Conference & Exhibition Co, Fuzhou Auto Yachts Management Co Ltd. Add in the Nam Kwong Convention & Exhibition Centre, and the Macau Expo Group Ltd, which gives the whole affair a distinctly private-jets-expensive-cars-and-boats feel to it.

Which in Macau sounds like a good idea. Fly into Macau International Airport in your private jet, hop into your Bentley, and transfer to your private floating hotel (read: superyacht) moored right next to the biggest concentration of casinos in Asia with a higher gambling turnover than anywhere else in the world. Really. Given Macau’s get-on-with-it attitude over the last decade or so, this could well come to pass.

Organisers report that 'over 30 top international yacht brands' will be attending, and there will be 'various activities to add to the fun'. We understand that Azimut, Beneteau, Lagoon, Sunseeker, ItalYachts, ARS Monaco, Horizon, Princess, Meridian, IAG and Pershing will all be represented at the show. The press release also promises that 'the formation of mega merger will forge a gorgeous and unprecedented yacht carnival.'

The press release goes on to point out that Macau already constitutes a developed luxury market, has rich tourism and cultural resources, is close to Hong Kong, Taiwan and mainland China, and – best of all – 'possesses powerful yacht consumer market to forge a gluttonous banquet for international yacht export and import.'

The show will include a fireworks ceremony, yacht test driving activities, an aqua show, and a bikini beach party. Organisers will be inviting 'over 100 Asia Pacific, domestic and foreign yacht clubs, 1000 purchasers, celebrities of the yacht industry, 200 yacht merchandisers and selected VIP group of private banking (who) will come to visit and purchase.'
