Balboa Yacht Club’s 45th annual Governor’s Cup International Junior Match Racing Championship, held July 19 to 24, 2011, was the closest competition in recent memory. After the second round robin, Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron, Scuttlebutt Sailing Club and St. Thomas Yacht Club had three way tie for fourth place. It took the third of the various tie breaking methodologies to choose which team would advance.
After RNZYS was able to win two races over Royal Port Nicholson Yacht Club for third place, the finals between the two US teams were held, with Nevin Snow, Jake LaDow and Jake Reynolds of San Diego Yacht Club winning over the Newport Harbor Yacht Club team of Chris Segerblom, helm, Connor Bathen and Brooks Clark coming in second.
They were also second in 2010, when a different RNZYS team were first. When you watch the videos, the team with the blue stripe on their spinnaker is SDYC. NHYC will fly a yellow/green stripe. RNZYS has an aqua stripe, and RPNYC is pink.
