Sandringham Yacht Club (SYC), one of Australia’s most progressive and awarded yacht clubs, is looking for an experienced person to fill the newly created role of Racing and Boating Events Manager. SYC is an outstanding sailing facility in Victoria with 2,500 members, 500 onsite boats and a healthy boating program. The purpose of this position is to manage, organise and arrange for the conduct of all on-water racing and related events at SYC. An exciting challenge, the position takes in all racing across the Club’s three core boating streams (keelboats, dinghy and recreational boating) as well as the delivery of its regattas, such as the international Grade 1 Sail Melbourne for Olympic and invited classes, match racing and the offshore Melbourne Osaka race. The successful candidate will also co-ordinate recruitment, rostering, training, supervision and management of the volunteer Race Management teams required to deliver the racing and events calendar. A diverse and challenging position, the Racing and Events Manager must hold a State Race Officer certificate and it is preferable they also hold a National and or International Race Officer certificate. Other requirements are: a solid knowledge of racing rules, course setting, water safety and related race management matters, attention to detail and a common-sense approach when dealing with members in the coordination and running of yacht racing events. The position deals with many stakeholders on a day-to-day basis, including at meetings. As such, applicants need to possess good communication skills and be highly professional and courteous. Applicants also need to be at home around computers. If needed, training will be provided in the use of Microsoft Office, Top Yacht sailing software, data base and Member Magic. This is a full time role, which takes in a lot of weekend work so the applicant would need to be flexible. He or she will work in a friendly and supportive environment in a prime location in Melbourne’s Bayside waterfront. The successful candidate will report directly to the Chief Executive Officer and will be accountable to the three respective club captains – (sail (keelboats), off the beach (dinghies) and recreational boating) and will be responsible for the delivery of their racing and events calendar. For full information on the position and more about Sandringham Yacht Club visit the website. To apply for the position; email your resume to Richard Hewett, CEO of Sandringham Yacht Club at: ceo@syc.com.au Closing date for applicants – COB Monday 15th August 2011.
