Audi concludes sponsorship of Audi Sydney Harbour Regatta

MHYC
Following five successful years as title sponsor of the Audi Sydney Harbour Regatta, organised by Middle Harbour Yacht Club (MHYC), Audi Australia’s sponsorship term has come to an end.

The German luxury brand has confirmed that it will not re-enter into a new term with MHYC, instead looking to new areas for sponsoring activities within the sport of sailing in Australia.

'After five years of this great event, it’s time for Audi in Australia to focus on new areas of sailing sponsorship,' Uwe Hagen, Audi Australia’s Managing Director, said.

'We have enjoyed our time as title sponsor of this spectacular and popular regatta, and we wish the event all the success for the future. It has been a pleasure to work with the Middle Harbour Yacht Club, which has delivered a thoroughly professional event each year,' he said

'The conclusion of this sponsorship nonetheless sees Audi continue to be involved at a high level with the sport of sailing in Australia, although our activities will take a new direction for the future.'

Commodore of MHYC, Julie Hodder, commented: 'Middle Harbour Yacht Club is proud of the partnership developed between the Club and Audi Australia in building this event into the iconic landmark sailing event for Sydney that it now is, with over 300 yachts and 2,500 crew members competing inshore and offshore, over two days of racing, on eight course areas and over 24 divisions.

'We look forward to continuing our relationship with Audi via its ongoing involvement in the sport of sailing in Australia,' she said.

Marketing, PR and Sponsorship Manager for MHYC. Alana Whitting, confirmed that the conclusion of Audi Australia’s time as title sponsor of the event has provided an exciting opportunity for new and existing partners of the Club and the sport of sailing in Australia to become involved in this prestigious yacht racing event, held on one of the world’s most famous harbours.

The Sydney Harbour Regatta is Sydney’s premier yacht racing event, conducted by MHYC with the assistance of Sydney clubs. To be held over three days from 9 to 12 March, 2012, it is the largest yacht racing championship on Sydney Harbour since the Sydney 2000 Olympics.

Having grown to host over 300 yachts from a variety of classes, and attracting more than 1000 people to the Club, the event provides an amazing spectacle with unlimited on-water action along with numerous onshore social and lifestyle activities all taking part around the enviable waterfront location of MHYC on the Spit at Mosman.
