The Australian Youth Sailing Team?s 420 boys and 29er crews have picked up race wins on day three of the ISAF ISAF Youth Sailing World Championships in Zadar, Croatia day 3.
Light winds and high temperatures have again been the flavour of the day in Croatia with four Australian crews sitting in the top 10 after three days of race.
In the 420 boys class Angus Galloway and Alex Gough opened their day with a 19th before winning race two, leaving them third overall, just one point off second overall.
Josh Franklin and Lewis Brake got their day off to a perfect start in the 29er class with a victory in race one before crossing the line 14th in race two, the pair are fifth after seven races, three points off the final step of the podium.
In the 420 girls class West Australians Carrie Smith and Ella Clark are also fifth overall following a seventh and a fifth in the day's two races.
'Carrie and Ella sailed exceptionally well in the light conditions,' said coach Belinda Stowell. 'At the top mark they were 17th in race one and 20th in race two but came through the fleet really well to finish up with a seventh and a fifth.'
Paul Darmanin and Aleks Vucic sit in ninth in the multihull open class with a pair of ninth place finishes on day three of racing.
'Overall we had another fairly light day which is continuing to test all of the sailors,' said Stowell. 'Tomorrow is a rest day for all of the classes except for the RS:X boys and girls who will be trying to get a couple of races in to get back onto schedule.'
Eamon Roberthshaw is 12th in the RS:X boys class after a tough race on Monday where he finished 21st.
In the RS:X girls class Annalise Gilbert is 17th with a 16th place finish in the only race on day three.
Matthew Wearn sits 29th after a 44th and 33rd in the day?s two races while Ashley Stoddart is 38th following a 29th, 28th and 26th in the Laser Radial girls.
The 2011 ISAF Youth Sailing World Championship continues in Croatia until Friday 15 July.
