'CORK Laser Masters J22 2011'    Geoff Webster

The Laser Master Canadian Championship 2011 began Friday, July 8th accompanied by a light breeze that allowed two races to be completed. Saturday also started off with light breeze, as the J22s started their Canadian Championship.

The wind picked up around 4pm, and allowed the J22s to complete four races for the day, and the Laser Masters to complete three, the late afternoon racing in great breeze.

Sunday morning started off with a steady 10-15 knot breeze from the southwest. The J22’s finished the day with three races, making it a seven race series. Ron Harris, Pete Amos and John Marten, from Hudson, Quebec, won the Championship, coming in first place four out of the seven races. Gordon McIlquham, Mary Ann Turcke, Emily McIlquham and Meredith Megarry, of the Royal Canadian Yacht Club placed second, and David Doyle, Mark McLean and Lindsay McMurray also of the Royal Canadian Yacht Club, came in third.

The Laser Master Canadians had a nine race series, after finishing four races on Sunday. Overall winner as well as first place in the Grand Masters division was Robert Koci of Water Rats Sailing Club in Toronto. Second place overall, and winner of the Masters division was Andy Roy of Peterborough and third place overall and winner of the Great Grand Masters division was Peter Seidenberg of Sail Newport, Rhode Island.
