Transatlantic Race 2011 fleet are nearing the finish line with Rambler 100 skippered by George David (Hartford, Conn.) having crossed the finish line on Sunday 10th July at 16h 08m UTC.
The elapsed time for Rambler 100 was 6d 22h 08m 2s which has established a new record for the 2,975 nautical mile course from Newport, RI to Lizard Point, South Cornwall, UK, which is to be ratified by the World Sailing Speed Record Council.
'A fun last 12 hours of sailing with an exceptional crew. We hooked into some good wind for the night and enjoyed some beautiful sailing - including our first view of the moon this trip and a couple of hours of great stars.
About 40 mins til we turn the corner at Lands End.. time to go to work. After finishing we still have 160 miles of sailing down the coast to Gosport where the boat will dock. '
