2011 Open European Championships day four.

The light and tricky conditions which have dominated the first week of the Championships in Helsinki, Finland, have continued to have a major influence on the day four of racing for the Laser fleets.

The Laser class was only able to complete one race in the light conditions on Wednesday with race two abandoned a number of times making for a long day on the water for the sailors.

Ryan Palk continues to be the leading Australian and sits in 19th overall. The Queenslander finished 19th in the day’s only race but unfortunately received two yellow flags and will have to sit out the first race on Thursday.

Tom Burton is in 42nd after an opening race 44th, and was caught out each time that the second race was abandoned, sitting fourth in one and leading the way in another.

Ashley Brunning is 40th in the Silver fleet and in the Bronze fleet Jared West is ninth.

The Laser Radial fleet was able to complete two races on day four with Krystal Weir the top ranked Australian in 15th.

Weir finished the day with a 21st and a 13th and with two fleet races remaining is 13 points off a position in the final 10 boat medal race.

Fellow Australian Alex South is 39th after not finishing race one and then crossing the line 38th in race two.

Racing continues for the Laser and Laser Radial fleets on Thursday with the final medal races being held on Friday 8 July.
