Chairman of the Board of Marine Rescue NSW, James Glissan QC, has announced the appointment of Stacey Tannos ESM as the organisation’s Chief Executive Officer.

Mr Tannos has had a long and distinguished history of service in the NSW Emergency Management sector, most recently as Chief Executive of Emergency Management NSW and the first State Emergency Recovery Controller.

Volunteer Marine Rescue NSW was established in 2009, bringing together skilled members from the Royal Volunteer Coastal Patrol, Australian Volunteer Coast Guard Association and marine section of the Volunteer Rescue Association into a consolidated volunteer rescue service dedicated to serving, educating and protecting the State’s boating community.

Mr Glissan said membership had now reached more than 3,200.

'The organisation has been led through its formation by Acting Commissioner Glenn Finniss, on secondment from the NSW Police Force Marine Area Command, and we thank him for the commitment and energy he brought to the position,' Mr Glissan said.

Mr Tannos said he was looking forward to working with the organisation’s volunteers and Board members, the State Government, NSW Maritime, the NSW Police Force and the Australian Maritime Safety Authority to serve the boating community.

'Marine Rescue’s Board and members have worked hard over the past two years to establish a single, unified volunteer rescue service of great value to the boating community,' Mr Tannos said.

'As Marine Rescue enters the next phase of its development, I am committed to working with the members to advance their interests and ensure we can consolidate and build on the organisation’s strength, attracting new volunteers and expanding our services.

'Safety will continue to be our highest priority, both for our members and the boating public.

'Our volunteers deserve a huge vote of thanks for their dedication to protecting and assisting people on our waters.

'They are skilled operators who give their time selflessly not only to respond to emergency incidents but also to attend regular training, run community education activities and raise funds,' he said.
