Bellingham Marine, GMI and MIAA are pleased to announce that the winner of the International Scholarship is Craig Evans of the Cruising Yacht Club of South Australia.

This year the Marina Industries Association of Australia’s (MIAA) Platinum Sponsor, Bellingham Marine offered an International Scholarship to members of the MIAA to attend the British Marine Federation’s (BMF) Advanced Marina Management course being held 26 February 2012 to 2 March 2012 in Poole, Dorset, in the United Kingdom.
This is the first year that an International Scholarship has been offered.

Bellingham Marine’s International Scholarship opens the door to those people whose goal is to advance their career to Certified Marina Manager status and give them the opportunity to attend the prerequisite Advanced Marina Management course being conducted by the BMF in the UK. It also allows the recipient to network and experience operations and initiatives from UK and European marinas or clubs.

Three Finalists were announced at the Marinas 2011 Conference in Melbourne on Monday 20 June, during the Global Marina Institute’s (GMI) presentation on New Horizons in Marina Training and Education.

The winner is Craig Evans of the Cruising Yacht Club of South Australia. Craig spent three years as a Director of the Cruising Yacht Club of SA, before accepting the position of Executive Director in 2005. As Executive Director he is responsible for the total operations of a 1200 member club with marinas on three separate sites – with just under 600 marina and hard standing berths. He is currently in his fourth year as a Board Member of the Boating Industry Association of South Australia.

John Spragg, General Manager of Bellingham Marine presented Craig with the International Scholarship along with Steve Sammes, Chairman MIAA Education Committee. 'I am pleased to be able to offer the International Scholarship to Craig,' said John.

'Craig displays high professional standards and commitment to the industry and what he will bring back from his experience in the UK will be beneficial to him and our industry. I believe Craig will be an excellent MIAA ambassador in the UK.'

Also present at the presentation was Sarah Dhanda, Director Business Development, BMF, who said that a reciprocal scholarship will be made available for one of their delegates to attend the MIAA Advanced Marina Management course in September 2011.

The Bellingham Marine International Scholarship covers the Advanced Marina Management course fees, return travel to the UK, and accommodation for the duration of the course.
