Marina of the Year 2011

'Soldiers Point Marina'    .

Soldiers Point Marina at Port Stephens on the New South Wales coast has been awarded the prestigious Club Marine MIAA Australian Marina of the Year 2011. This Award recognises excellence in the provision of marina services, facilities and operations.

The judging criteria covered the marina's goals and objectives, business performance, customer service including evidence from customer feedback; marketing, environmental and risk management; staff training, industry and community involvement and other accomplishments.

'Having won Marina of the Year in 2007, we are absolutely ecstatic to have won this highly regarded award again,' said Marina Manager Darrell Barnett CMM from Melbourne where the award was announced last night at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre

Finalists in the Club Marine MIAA Marina of the Year Awards have recently been judged. Applicants are assessed against a 10 point written and visual submission and a site visit. This year, a specific Club Marina awards category was created in recognition of the specific charter and functions of club marinas.

MIAA Executive Officer Colin Bransgrove said the marina industries were fortunate to have so many organizations, businesses and individuals committed to supporting the Awards. 'The judges came from four states at their own expense to contribute to what was a very rigorous evaluation process'. The panel of seven commented on the closeness of the scoring, particularly in the Club Marina category.

The finalists were:

Commercial Marinas - 140 Boats & Over:
Bundaberg Port Marina (Q’land)
Cairns Marlin Marina (Q’land)
Empire Marina Bobbin Head (NSW).

Commercial Marinas Under 140 Boats:
