Following a highly successful refit at Rivergate Marina and Shipyard the Pacific Patrol Boat RVS 'Tukoro' will sail from Brisbane this coming Monday for its home port of Port Villa in the South Pacific Island Nation of Vanuatu.
The RVS 'Tukoro' crew who are all Vanuatu Nationals, were ecstatic with the standard of service, the quality of the work and the professionalism they received at Rivergate.
While the Patrol Boat was at Rivergate it was totally repainted by Rivergate’s in house refinisher Millennium Marine Australia. Principal of Millennium Marine, Dino Inguanzo said 'To achieve a successful major refit from the keel to the tip of the communication mast in only six weeks is testament to the seamless coordination of the various specialist contractors who call Rivergate Marina and Shipyard home'.
The refit included structural hull modification and strengthening by Stella Marine, an interior refurbishment by Gateway Marine, with fourth generation engineers Lex Baddiley Marine Engineering making sure the Patrol Boat’s high tech shafts and propulsion equipment was ship shape prior to re-launch.
Rivergate Marina and Shipyard’s Manager, Andrew Cannon, said 'Rivergate is highly regarded in the superyacht field and it was exciting to use the skills and techniques Rivergate employs in the white boat industry on this Patrol Boat project. The client is extremely happy and RVS 'Tukoro' is once again ready to patrol the waters of the Vanuatu Islands'.
RVS 'Tukoro' was donated to the Vanuatu Nation in late 1987 by the Australian Government, which commissioned the vessel. The ship has spent thousands of hours patrolling the waters around the island nation engaged in operations such as search and rescue, drug detection and disaster relief.
The Patrol Boat upgrade carried out by the Rivergate team was supervised by Australian Defense contractors, BAE Australia Pty Ltd; with BAE’s Charlie Cole maintaining a watching brief over the project on behalf of the Commonwealth of Australia.
RVS 'Tukoro' will be crewed by 16 Vanuatu Nationals on her return journey to Port Villa. The Australian Navy’s Chief Petty Officer and Technical Advisor, Brett South, will accompany the crew for the voyage home.
