Australian Boating College focuses on marine safety

Australian Boating College, Brisbane-Gold Coast division, is holding a safety meeting and training day for its 10 instructors at The Spit on Queensland's Gold Coast, 12 July. The aim, says MD Russell Shipman, is to raise marine safety standards following the recent spate of Coroners' reports into the boating and jet skiing industries.

From its office based in Carrara, Australian Boating College covers South-East Qld, and takes its boats and jetskis to locations to conduct boat and jetski licencing. Courses run from Southporty to Bribie Island most days. Licenses cost $150 each or $250 if you carry out both on the same day.

'This is the ideal time of year to train for your boat license,' says Russell. 'There are calm conditions, beautiful weather and you can beat the summer rush.'

Courses run from 8am to 4pm and involve theory, practical as well as a test composed of multiple choice questions.
ABC also offers nationally accredited towing courses and online radio courses, where applicants can study online for MROCP MF/HF or MROVCP VHF radio licenses at their own pace, and then book in to sit the examination at an Invigilator Centre.

'When it comes to boating and jetskiing, safety is paramount. We take it very seriously and ensure our instructors maintain the highest standards to give our clients the best training possible.'

Russell has been with Australian Boating College for 15 years, and during this time has seen an increase on the focus on safety regulations. 'It all adds to a better on-water experience.'
