Coastal Cup 2011, sponsored by Encinal Yacht Club, is being held from June 15th to June 20th. The race starts in San Francisco and finishes at Santa Catalina Island.

Divison D departed San Francisco today much as the fleets in division A and C did yesterday, seeking relief from the maxing flood by hugging the South Tower of the Golden Gate, hugging the San Francisco coast and attempting to eek out past Seal Rocks and into favorable current and wind. The results were much the same as the boat felt like swimming in molasses getting nowhere fast and then tossed into the full agitation cycle in the raging rip headed up Ocean Beach and towards the GG Straits. No doubt some full pucker moments for captains and crews until they were able to sneak off shore and get out of the beast that was.

In the previous divisons, Stephen Stroubs SC 37, 'Tiburon' leads the fleets, and is close to finish, followed surprisingly by Rufus Sjoberg's 11 Meter 'Skiff Sailing' which is sailing one hell of a race, the first of its kind for the design which was never intended to be offshore! There have been four retirees since yesterdays start, and a couple of no shows for today's start of Division D.
