Delta Lloyd Regatta - Countdown to selections for USSTAG
|
Delta Lloyd Regatta will see a group of US Sailing Team AlphaGraphics athletes in Medemblik (The Netherlands) to compete in what will lead up to the first of two Selection Events that will be used to select the U.S. Olympic Team - Sailing. The Delta Lloyd Regatta will be the fifth stop on ISAF World Cup circuit and is scheduled for May 24-29 across 10 Olympic and two Paralympic classes. The Delta Lloyd Regatta expects to host over 1,000 sailors from more than 50 countries. Exclusive photos, video interviews and reports from the racecourse will be posted on USSTAG’s Facebook and Twitter channels. 'We came home from French Olympic Sailing Week with four medals and the knowledge that our training is paying off,' said USSTAG’s High Performance Director/Head Coach Kenneth Andreasen (Tampa, Fla.). 'Delta Lloyd is the last event before Sail for Gold, which will double as the first part of our Olympic Team selection. A core group of our athletes will take advantage of some additional competition in Medemblik before heading to Weymouth. We will be represented in five Olympic classes: 49er, Finn, Laser, Men’s RS:X, Women’s RS:X and Women’s Match Racing.' Racing starts Tuesday, May 24 in all Olympic classes and concludes with the medal race on Sunday, May 29. Women’s Match Racing consist of an opening series, a knockout series, and a sail-off for boats not advancing to the knockout series, with the final matches scheduled on Sunday, May 29. Sailors accrue points at each of the seven ISAF Sailing World Cup events to earn an overall Series Score. A first place win translates into 20 points, a second place earns 19 points and so on. (Twentieth place earns one point.) The skipper/crew with the highest Series Score at the end of the season wins the ISAF Sailing World Cup Trophy.
