Sail-World.com : Anchoring rights at stake in May ordinance meeting

Anchoring rights at stake in May ordinance meeting

'BoatUS'    Katie Ashworth

BoatUS is urging boaters, cruisers and sailors, and anyone who benefits from boater spending, to attend the May 26 meeting to have their voices heard because the ability for recreational boats to drop and set anchor in the city of St. Augustine is currently being reviewed by city officials who are seeking input.

The City of St. Augustine is participating as one of five cities in the state's mooring and anchoring pilot project. As part of this pilot project, the city will be allowed to develop an ordinance to limit nearby anchoring.

'We need cruisers as well as those interested in boater spending to attend this meeting to ensure that a reasonable approach is taken and St. Augustine remains a boating-friendly area,' said BoatUS Vice President of Government Affairs Margaret Podlich. 'In the coming months the city will be honing its approach to anchoring. As a result, it will be crucial to provide input on impending local anchoring regulations.'

The meeting will be held Thursday, May 26, from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the Alcazar Room in City Hall, 75 King Street, St. Augustine, FL 32084.

For more background information on anchoring laws in Florida, see the new BoatUS information sheet at here.
