Olympic Garda Eurolymp 2011 day 3 and Garda conditions were back to normal under clear skies.

This morning at Malcesine there was a good north wind which allowed the Finn class to complete two races. By afternoon the usual southerly winds had reached the other courses allowing four regattas to be completed. It was an intense day for competitors and regatta officials as well as the organisational staff of Fraglia Vela Riva, Italy Torbole Surf Club and Fraglia Vela Malcesine.

Tomorrow is a decisive day before the medal race. The top ten of each category will race against each other with double points at stake and no discarding.

49er
A total of ten races out of 14 scheduled (excluding the medal race), have been run. Italians Pietro e Gianfranco Sibello have lengthened their lead over Greeks Sotiriou-Panagio. The Italians took two firsts and two thirds and are 25 points ahead. In third place are the Paz Bros. of Spain, equal on points.

Laser Standard
Three races were run today for a total of eight races out of ten scheduled (excluding the medal race-as in all the other classes except the above mentioned 49er). Wind conditions were good at 18 knots, in other areas ten knots. In first and second places are Croatian s Taritas and Mihelic respectively with 12 points. In third place ( fourth from yesterday ),is Italian Giacomo Bottoli with a mediocre ( 6-8-17 ), but ahead of his main rivals for the Olympic qualifications, as in the women's Laser Radial- which started from zero here at Riva del Garda not having athletes with enough points in the last two qualifications.

LASER RADIAL
Three races were run today bringing to a total of eight for the women’s Laser Radial. Lithuanian Gintare Sheidt has a comfortable lead (2-1-1-today) and is 13 points ahead of Brugger of Switzerland (3-2-2 today ). In third place and equal on points is Reyes of Spain. Italian Francesca Clapcich fourth has a more than comfortable advantage over Laura Cosentino who is 13th and is out of the medal race with more than 50 points behind Clapcich, who today had three fifth places.

RS:X Womens
Three legs were completed today for a total of eight altogether.

Alessandra Sensini today lengthened her lead over her main rival , showing her high technical skills and psychological strength. The Olympian finished today with two clean wins in the second and fourth regattas and a third and second which put her in the lead 15 points ahead of Li Ling and 24 over Linares. A margin of 22 points is enough in the medal race to guarantee Sensini victory. Tomorrow's race is crucial for Linares who needs to shorten the distance between her and Sensini, her idol and now her rival. There was a great come back for the other Italian Flavia Tartaglini who climbed into third place 1 point behind Linares. It' a thrilling competition down to the last card. Unfortunately during the first race there was a bad collision between the two Chinese competitors Chen and Sun (one at the Bowline and the other just starting the first slack), causing Sun a fractured femore. She was immediately transported by helicopter to the hospital in Rovereto were she was operated on.

RX:S Mens
After four races today and nine overall, New Zealander Tom Ashley remains in the lead nine point ahead of Kokkolanis of Greece. Holding on to third place is Mashiah of Israel. Italian Heidegger is fourth (today 4-6-2-8), Federico Esposito is sixth (not performing well today with a 10-9-12-12), but qualifying on points according to technical director Paolo Ghione.

FINN
Two races were held this morning and one this afternoon to bring to a total of seven regattas out of 10. Wright of Great Britain is still in the lead (2-3-3 today). In second place is Abogar of Slovenia (5-1-4) and third is Michel Paoletti who has lengthened his lead on his Italian rivals and therefore is improving his chances for Olympic qualification.

He took a 6-4-2 today, while Filippo Baldessari is in seventh place 24 points behind Paoletti. If things remain as they are, by the medal race he won't be able to close the gap. In eighth place is Giorgio Poggi, who does not qualify for the selection, but nevertheless had a good second and first spoiled by OCS.

STAR
Four races today for a total of eight altogether. The table reflects the order after six regattas (as we speak the judges are still checking the order of arrival in the sixth and seventh regattas). In first place is the Italian crew of Negri-Voltolini (2-11 today). They are being chased, however, by Swedes Loof-Salmine (1-partial 6) only one point behind. In third place are Germans Stanjek-Kleen.

470 Men
Three races today for a total of eight. There is an Italian battle in progress for a place on the podium with Zandona-Zucchetti (1-5-14) first with an 11 point advantage over Zeni-Petanti (4-3-3-partials). In third place Sivitz_Farnetti and in fourth Dubbini-Dubbini. An excellent day for Italians Bertagna-Giannini who took a fifth, first and second.

470 Women
Still comfortably ahead are Conti-Micol who apart from a seventh today (discarded), took a first and a second, giving them a 13 point lead over Russians Ilienko-Khurukina. In third place are Cai-Gao of China.
