See the Boat Show debut of three new Icom products at Sanctuary Cove

Icom Australia is proud to announce that it will have three new products on display at the Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show. Look out for Icom on stand A58 to see the MA-500TR AIS Transponder, IC-M412 VHF Transceiver and IC-M23 Float’n Flash VHF Handheld.

The Icom MA-500TR is the perfect choice for those wanting a feature packed and reliable AIS transponder. It features IPX7 (1m depth for 30 minutes) water ingress protection, and is built tough like all Icom products. Being a transponder, not a receiver, the MA-500TR will also send out the user’s information, allowing them to be visible to other vessels.

A GPS receiver is included in the box, and the MA-500TR features a full dot-matrix display, so there is no need to worry about third party items (an external chartplotter can be connected, but is not required). The unit can be easily integrated with Icom’s IC-M505 (older versions require an upgrade), IC-M604 (firmware upgrade required) as well as the new IC-M412. This allows the user to initiate DSC calls via the MA-500TR by using on-screen MMSI data.

The new IC-M412 boasts a strong IPX7 design, meaning the unit is waterproof to a depth of one metre for 30 minutes. Powerful class-D DSC is also featured in the transceiver, meaning the unit has a dedicated DSC receiver. With many Australian Marine Rescue organisations now using DSC to monitor coastal activity, a DSC-enabled VHF radio is a must when considering safety on the water. A total of 100 MMSI (Maritime Mobile Service Identity) numbers can also be programmed into the transceiver.

The IC-M412 will also continually monitor channel 16 while scanning, in the event that a distress call comes through. The large, backlit LCD screen of the IC-M412 also means that it can be operated with ease, allowing the user to keep an eye on the water. By connecting an optional GPS, the transceiver can also let others know the vessel’s current position.

The IC-M23 combines the fantastic buoyant construction of previous Icom handhelds with a new flashing feature, allowing it to be detected in the water. The IC-M23 is the smallest and lightest floating 5W handheld marine VHF radio currently available.

The new flashing feature on the IC-M23 works by using water as a conductor to complete an electrical circuit. When the contacts on the radio hit the water, a small electrical charge can reach the LED, and the radio will begin to flash, allowing it to easily be identified in the water during low-light conditions. The radio will flash in the water even when turned off, making the feature even more versatile.

The unit also features an extremely small and light construction, weighing approximately only 260 grams. A water-ingress protection rating of IPX7 is carried by the IC-M23, meaning that not only is it small and light, it is also strong and durable. Energy-saving circuitry has also been implemented into the IC-M23, as a 3.7v/1500mAh battery is all that is needed to power the radio for 10 hours (typical usage Tx:Rx:Standby = 5:5:90).

When searching for serious communications, count on Icom. Icom is recognised worldwide as a reliable two-way radio brand name. Our radios can be found in over 80 countries around the world, and have a strong reputation for quality and reliability, as all Icom radios are manufactured in Japan to strict quality standards. You can find out more about the range of marine radio equipment by visiting www.icom.net.au, or by speaking to our friendly Sales Team on (03) 9549 7500.
