Monsoon Cup is certainly a yacht race event in Malaysia that you wouldn't want to miss. It is the last leg of the prestigious World Match Racing Tour, a professional sailing series featuring nine World Championship events across the globe.

The Monsoon Cup along with a handful of other Malaysian entities and a host of established industry stalwarts are amongst the nominees at the Asia Boating Awards 2011. Now in its seventh year, the Monsoon Cup has gained prominent status on the World Tour, winning the 'Best Event' status twice. It also offers the highest prize purse on the Tour, MYR 1.475million (approx USD 475,000), with the winner set to earn MYR 310,000 (approx USD100,000).

The Asia Boating Awards is the region’s longest established event of its kind. This year sees awards in 23 categories, recognising Asian builders and international brands, as well as premier Asian regattas, marinas and yacht designers working in Asia. The list of nominees comes from online polling of Asia-Pacific Boating readers, with final winners being determined by a panel of judges, of which Mr. Wicky Sundram, General Manager of Royal Langkawi Yacht Club and Mr. John Ferguson, Marina Manager of Straits Quay Marina Penang are members.

The local Malaysian nominees for 2011 Asia Boating Awards are as follows in these categories:
1. Best Asian Regatta of the Year - The Monsoon Cup
2. Best Asian Yacht Club of the Year - Royal Langkawi Yacht Club
3. ‘Green’ Maritime Company of the Year - Grand Banks
4. Best Production Motor Yacht (51 to 80 feet) - Grand Banks - 53 Aleutian RP
5. Best Asian Motor Yacht Builder (51 to 80 feet) - Grand Banks

The venue of the Monsoon Cup is Pulau Duyong, Terengganu. T-Best Events Sdn Bhd last week announced new dates (29 Nov - 4 Dec) for the 2011 edition of the Monsoon Cup to ensure it does not clash with the SEA Games.
