'PLATU 25 ALPEN CUP IN MALCESINE (29 April-1st May)'

After the 'Primo Cup' in France, the 'Platu Open Championship' in Thailand and the International Match Race third grade ISAF in Italy, here we are with an other important appointment for the Platu 25 class. From the 29th of April to the first of May, indeed, the First Act of the Alpen Cup will take place in Malcesine, on the Lake of Garda, Italy. It’s the beginning of the fifth edition of the Alpen Cup, the prestigious Circuit in four acts taking place on the Alpine Lakes of Austria, Switzerland and Italy that is involving more and more Platu 25 crews. The Alpen Cup was founded by Guenther Prummer from Austria, Felix Dorn from Germany and Markus Sigrist from Switzerland and started in 2006. One year later the Italian fleet was involved by Claudio Fasoli. 'I remember very well when we met the first time and started talking about AlpCup on the balcony of the Yacht Club of Gmunden' reminds Markus Sigrist. So everything was born from there, the place where the next Platu 25 World Championship will take place! This year, moreover, the first Act of the Alpen Cup coincides with the first leg of the Platu 25 Italian Circuit. This fifth edition scheduled even two out of four Acts in Italy. As Edoardo Barni, the Platu 25 International President underlined: 'The Alpen Cup is attracting an increasingly number of Platu 25 crews. The first edition was 5 years ago and in the beginning the participants were especially Austrian, Swiss and German boats. Then it started growing and more Italian crews had been involved. This year two Acts will be hosted in Italy and we chose the Garda Lake to begin also the Platu 25 Italian Circuit: that’s quite revealing of the importance of this event that is attracting crews from all over the Alpine area and more and more from Italy. This area is becoming also strategic: it’s not by chance that the 2011 World Championship will take place next May on the Traunsee Lake, in Austria, just one week after the Second Leg of the Alpen Cup in Ebensee, on the same Lake' Crews from Austria, Germany, Switzerland and Italy are expected. Very competitive Italian boats. will arrive to Malcesine. There will be, for example,'3Fight for fighting' helmed by the strong Alberto La Tegola who won the Platu 25 Winter Championship in Puglia. And also 'Nanuk', helmed by the talented Luigi Ravioli and owned by Gianrocco Catalano, will be a very strong adversary. 'Nanuk', indeed, is the Italian Champion and recently won the Primo Cup in Monaco. There will be also many crews coming from Tuscany and from the from the Lake of Como: among them 'Lunatica' helmed by Andrea De Santis – the Platu 25 Lake of Como Winter Champion – and 'Pirillina' helmed by Claudio Fasoli. From Austria, at least six crews are expected. The most competitive one is the Thomas Laherstorfer ‘s 'White Pearl', twice Platu 25 Austrian Champion. From Germany, there will be Felix Dorn. The rest of the German fleet will be busy, during the same week-end- with the 'May Offshore Race' in Kiel, a 3 day event, and the 'Lubinus-Cup' right one week later also in Kiel. From Switzerland there will be 'Superbüsi' and 'MythenSailing'. Markus Sigrist –the 2009 Alpen Cup Winner - probably will take part in the regatta in Malcesine, on board of the Italian '3Fight for fighting' So, in Malcesine, an exiting challenge is expected between Nanuk' and 'White Pearl', the Italian and Austrian Champions. But also the strong team of '3Fight for fighting' could reserve some surprises and the Italian teams from the Lake of Como could take advantage of their good knowledge of Lakes and changeable winds. 2011 Platu 25 ALPEN CUP 29 April – 1st May Malcesine, Garda Lake (Italy) ACT I 21 May – 22 May Ebensee, Traunsee Lake (Austria) ACT II 28 May – 3 June Gmunden, Traunsee Lake (Austria) PLATU 25 WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP 26 August- 28 August Brunnen, Luzern Lake (Switzerland) ACT III 3 -4 September Bellano, Como Lake (Italy) ACT IV
