Rainier Cup Regatta 2011 was held in Cascade Locks Marine Park, Oregon during April 16th-17th.
Saturday: Racing got underway shortly after 1030 in a building west wind. Cool temps and frequent rain showers made their way across the race course all day. Shifty winds from 8-16knts kept sailors on their toes and a strong current meant many OCS's hailed at the start line. Thanks to technical support from Greg Wilkinson and Dayan Paez, race committee was able to score races live on the water using only a smart phone. 6A and 6B races were sailed before racing was called for the day. One protest was filed resulting in a DSQ.
Sunday: Sailors arrived to brisk temps, clear skies and a fresh breeze. Winds quickly built to 12-14knts with afternoon puffs in the high teens/low twenties. Sunday's breeze brought 30 degree oscillations and steep chop. 4A and 4B races were sailed before the 3pm cut-off time. Courses were modified windward-leewards.
A special thanks to all the volunteers that helped with race committee this weekend; Dave Patterson, Andrew Nelson, Chris Brown, Jess Frazier, Jay McRostie and Jack Thomas. Thanks to Steve Williams, Andrew Nelson and Chris Brown for hearing protests and to Zip 2 Water for the clean, filtered drinking water.
Congrats to the University of Washington, this year's Rainier Cup winner!
