Olympians undefeated record remains intact

Holland-based sailor Darren Bundock and crewmate Jeroen van Leeuwen have kept intact their extraordinary undefeated run in Formula 18 racing with the pair starting the 2011 season as they finished 2010 with a victory.

In an extraordinary effort the pair have proved unbeatable on the dynamic C2 Formula 18 catamaran since teaming for the first time in August 2010. Their latest win came at the Dutch F18 Class Event which doubled as the European season opener and was contested by 45 crews.

'It was a great regatta and a great way to start the season on a great boat,' said multiple Olympic medallist Bundock after the victory with van Leeuwen. 'It's great that we were able to keep our undefeated record intact but I think we have put a real target on our backs now.'

'There are plenty of sailors out there who will want to spoil our record so we're going to have to try and lift to another level before the next event.' Bundock said the C2's proved ultra successful at the regatta with four of the designs finishing in the top 10 overall.

'We used a brand new, straight out of the box boat for the regatta, put it together the day before and just went out and sailed it,' Bundock said. 'Simple, easily quick and in this case successful.'

'We had mainly light winds all regatta between six to 10 knots on the final day and the boat performed beautifully.'

'It was just fantastic to be out there sailing again after a long winter.'

The next major event for Bundock and van Leeuwen is the Eurocat event which starts on May 28.
