Sailing is playing a part in the recovery of Queensland from a spate of devastating natural disasters, and teen-aged solo round-world sailor Jessica Watson has lent her now famous face to assist the state in its $100,000 2011 Season of Sailing Campaign.

Jessica, who also won Young Australian of the Year will personally promote all the 2011 Season of Sailing events.

Queensland Tourism Minister Jan Jarratt said the campaign would promote sailing events along the state's coastline between April 22 and September 6, with regattas in Brisbane, the Sunshine Coast, Central Queensland, the Whitsundays and Townsville.

'Queensland is Australia's premier sailing destination and this campaign encompasses a wide range of stay and sail experiences which are bound to make Sydneysiders and Melbournites want to leave the cold southern winter for Queensland,' she said.

'Jessica is a genuine Queensland inspiration who has developed an international profile, which makes her the perfect fit for Queensland's Season of Sailing campaign.

'She is also a proud Queenslander who has the ability to raise the profile of Queensland's Season of Sailing even further in 2011.'

Jessica will personally promote all the 2011 Season of Sailing events on her website www.jessicawatson.com.au

Footnote:
The Queensland Government has just paid $300,000 for the yacht Jessica Watson made history in as the youngest person to sail solo around the world. Ella's Pink Lady will be a permanent exhibit at the Queensland Maritime Museum.
