The Derwent River Division 1 summer pennant final race today was won by Sydney Hobart racing yacht Dump Truck. In fact, she won two pennants.
Helmsman Edward Fader steered the Ker 11.3 to victory in the last race under all three Division 1 handicap categories, to win both the AMS and IRC pennants and finish third overall in the PHS pennant
This has been the first summer season in Hobart since Fader and co-owner Justin Wells bought the yacht, previously known as Tow Truck and a two-times division winner of the Sydney Hobart race.
They plan to contest this year’s Rolex Sydney Hobart race after good offshore races this past season, including winning the Mewstone Race.
Whilst they missed out last weekend on winning a pennant at their home club, the Royal Yacht Club of Tasmania, they turned in two excellent races today to clinch the AMS and IRC pennants with the DSS.
Fader and his crew picked the right changes in wind direction and strength as the fleet sailed in a tricky westerly breeze that swung from north-west to south-west and ranged from 0 to 25 knots during the afternoon.
'We made a couple of wrong decisions in the first race, but got it right in the second and that gave us the pennant,' Fader said after the race at the DSS.

In the AMS category, Dump Truck placed third and first to win the pennant with a net 12 points, with second place going to Don Calvert’s Castro 40 Intrigue on 14 points and third to Archie (Sally Rattle) winner of the first race yesterday, on 16 points.
Dump Truck had a three point margin at the end of the day in the IRC category, scoring a second and a first, to finish the season on 9 points, with Archie on 12 points and Intrigue on 18 points.
The PHS category pennant went to Roger Jack man’s Doctor Who on 12 points, with Archie on 19 points and Dump Truck 21 points.
Divisions 2 and 3 sailed one race today and the winners took out the season pennants, but a countback was needed after pointscore ties in both divisions.
In Division 2, Paul Bout chard’s J35 Memo won the countback from Wings Three (Peter Haros) after both finished with seven points, third place going to Miss Conduct (Robin Fleming) with 9 points.
In Division 3, Graham Harrington’s Sonata 8 Trick Cyclist took handicap honours in the final race by 19 seconds from Ragtime (Tom Kirkland) to tie with Malcolm Cooper’s Kaiulani) in the pointscore, each totalling seven points.
However, Trick Cyclist’s two wins over the season gave it the pennant on a countback from Kaiulani, third place overall going to Epoxy Warrior (Ross Mannering).
Eleven times Tasmanian champion Nick Rogers collected the International Dragon class pennant, winning all seven DSS pennant races over the season. Xanthos (Mike Wilkinson) finished second overall, third going to Aquila (Jock Young)
The J24 class saw last day honours shared with the pennant ultimately going to Street Car (Peter Bingham) on 11 points from Divine Madness (Craig Squires). Each had a first and a second.
Stuart Geeves’ Young 88 Footloose completed an outstanding season of inshore and offshore racing with a win and a third place on the final day to win the 9-metre division pennant.
Footloose, which won the Launceston to Hobart ocean race, finished the DSS pennant with 11 points, second place overall going to Sunview Homes (Rob Woehler) on 15.5 points, third to Trouble (Dave Willans) on 26.5 points.
