Three of a Kind Regatta at Mounts Bay Sailing Club

Built up to be a big grudge match with the arrival of the 18 foot Skiffs, the annual Three of a Kind Regatta hosted by Mounts Bay Sailing Club on 13th March 2011 created an air of expectancy amongst the 40 boats representing 10 classes. So with the arrival of an easterly only reaching 12knots at times the 18’s were reduced to their small rigs and were never in the hunt.

Centre stage featured the 14’ Skiffs and the 49ers with their new rigs. In a shifting breeze there were several changes for the lead and it showed the strengths of the different classes and crews, but in the end it was the 49ers that took out Monohull Division A.

Monohull Division B proved to be a match between youth in the Flying Ants and the experienced GP 14’s - again, in the light air the wise heads of the GP 14’s took out the honours over the juniors.

In the Multihull Division derby between the Tornados and the Formula 18s the light winds made tacking difficult so playing one side of the course was the key and the Formula 18’s took out this year’s bragging rights.

The presentation was held in true Mounts Bay style with a few bell rings and all the sailors enjoying the relaxed atmosphere of the Bay.
