Noosa Yacht & Rowing Club will play host for the 2011 Live in Sabot Development Camp this weekend. Now in its third year the Camp will be attended by 45 young sailors of all capabilities travelling from as far afield as Cairns and Rockhampton.
by Paul Blundell
The camp is part of the Yachting Queensland Development and Talent Identification Program with coaching provided by Noosa’s Youthsail Sailing Manager Paul Blundell, Australian Youth Olympic Coach Ben Callard, Queensland’s High Performance Coach and Australian Paralympics Coach Adrian Finglas and a further 12 coach assistants.
Kids will be taken through sessions of tactics, rigging, health, fitness and regatta preparation and stay at the nearby Noosa Sea Scouts facility whilst being feed by a team of sabot parent and NYRC volunteers.
Noosa’s Youthsail has forged a nitch in the youth development department by consistently hosting development and schools camps and regattas alongside their already jam packed sailing program making the Noosa program one of, if not, the largest in Australia.
Now with more than 30 Yachting Australia qualified assistant instructors and over 200 kids each week the Youthsail program has been a leader in keeping kids active on the Sunshine Coast and introducing thousands of kids to the sport of sailing. www.nyrc.com.au
