ISAF has now published the Urgent Submissions for the 2011 ISAF Mid-Year Meeting that will be held in St. Petersburg, Russia from fourth through the eighth of May. The Urgent Submissions are all related to the Event and Equipment choices for the 2016 Olympic Sailing Competition.

At the 2010 ISAF Annual Conference, Council agreed that the process for selecting the Olympic Events and Equipment should be changed and approved new Regulation 23.

The report from the Olympic Commission recommended the change as a way to better serve the ISAF Member National Authorities (MNAs) and sailors and to provide greater continuity for the sport. The Commission recommended a selection process that would enable ISAF to improve continuity between Olympic Games' and create a system for Equipment evolution.

A total of 65 Urgent Submissions have been received. They relate to the provisional list of Events and Equipment ('the slate') defined in Regulation 23.1.4, the voting system for selecting the slate and Core Events.

Submissions M01-11 to M03-11 deal with the voting procedure for selecting the slate.
Submissions M04-11 to M39-11 deal with the 2016 slate options.
Submissions M40-11 to M43-11 deal with the Core Events.

These Submissions will be considered by the Events Committee and the ISAF Council alongside three Submissions deferred from the 2010 ISAF Annual Conference - 112-10, 113-10 and 116-10 - relating to Olympic Class World Championships.

The ISAF Council will meet on the sixth and seventh of May 2011 in St Petersburg, Russia.

The Olympic Sailing Competition showcases the skills and diversity of the best sailors from around the world. Olympic Events, Equipment and formats are chosen to present the sport of sailing as a challenging but accessible and rewarding sport for participants from all countries and as an engaging experience for spectators and remote audiences.

In choosing its Olympic Events and Equipment, ISAF shall seek to ensure that each Event at the Olympic Sailing Competition is, and will be likely to remain, the pinnacle Event for that discipline or area of sailing.
