Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron - Youth Training Programme member Edwin Delaat has won first prize in the BMW Auckland Regatta 2011 Division D on PHRF.

14 year old skipper/owner Edwin Delaat of Crac-A-Jac made his intentions clear right at each start. There had been some close encounters but Crac-A-Jac and crew did not let the bigger boats intimidate them. Skipper Edwin Delaat said he had a plan and stuck to it.

Crew members Steve Alloway and Grant Barker were not so sure at first for being lumped in with the bigger boats. 'Dog taka' was their first reaction. Crac-A-Jac's bowman Ned Dalbeth-Hudson, another 14-year old from Kerikeri believed in Edwin's master plan. With the hunger and determination to do well the teenagers convinced the other two crew members and lifted their enthusiasm.

The weather conditions were tricky at times Edwin said, but suited his strategy. When asked for their game plan none of Crac-A-Jac's crew was willing to give that away. Edwin Delaat's comment was 'What happens on the boat I expect to stay on the boat'.

An amazing result for any 14 year old on a 1/4 tonner Farr 727.
