Brett Taylor, Director of Global Distribution for Destiny Bay, has announced support for Miranda Powrie’s Olympic sailing bid. The artisan winemaker will donate a bottle of their critically acclaimed wine to each person who pledges $100 or more to help Miranda train for the 2012 Olympics.

'We believe even small artisan winemakers like Destiny Bay can play a role in advancing New Zealand’s visibility on the world stage,' explains Taylor. To encourage support, Destiny Bay is donating some of their recently released wine wine to help raise funds for Miranda to prepare for her Olympic bid. 'Miranda represents the determination, grit and passion for her sport that is an inspiration to us all, and we wanted to find a way that all of us could help her achieve her Olympic dream.'

'To get to the Olympics you need to excel in the tough big fleet racing on the European circuit' says Powrie. 'You can make big gains by training hard in New Zealand, but you still need to practice the real thing'.

Miranda needs support to participate in key regattas in France, Holland, England, Sydney, Melbourne and finally Perth in December. Costs for travel, accommodation, sails, insurance and shipping are substantial.

Each person who donates $100 or more to Miranda’s Olympic training campaign will receive a complimentary bottle of Destiny Bay’s 2006 Destinae wine (rated five stars by Michael Cooper).

'We need a little over 300 donors to raise enough money to help Miranda train so she can represent New Zealand in London in 2012', Taylor said. 'We hope both the opportunity to help one of our women sailing athletes, and enjoy a critically acclaimed bottle of New Zealand artisan wine, will encourage enough people to step forward and help out.'
