METS 2010 was 'sensational' for Kevin Barr of Barz Optics. The November event yielded plenty of leads and to date, four new companies stocking his specialised range of sunglasses.
Now based at their new premises at Burleigh Heads on the Queensland Gold Coast, Barz Optics has just shipped off their first orders to Southern Cross Spars in Norway, which will handle Sweden and Finland as well, and On Deck, based in Holland which covers Belgium too, as well as Onda Blue in Italy and Altitude Diffusion of France.
'METS 2010 was great exposure for us as part of the AIMEX group,' he asserts.
Despite the slump in the retail sector for many surf and sailing products, worsened by a precarious world economy, the market for Barz sunglasses is eager and avid.
'We are one of the world's smallest sunglass companies but one of the most innovative,' he explains.
There is a range of new models in the pipeline, including NXT and acetate photochromic polarized glasses The photochromic range will adjust to conditions on the water, changing to category 3 in bright sunlight and back to level 2 in low light.
Next on the agenda are the Strictly Sail Pacific boat show, Oakland San Francisco Bay, starting April 14 and the Hutchwilco Boat Show Auckland as part of the BLA stand from the May 12.
For Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show on the Gold Coast May 19-22, Barz Optics is supplying 30 of the SCIBS management team with glasses, walking endorsements for the versatility of the brand, as well as exhibiting its extensive range of bifocal readers and photochromics.
Then for the Sydney International Boat Show in July, Barz Optics will be launching the 'phenomenal' new floating model. 'There are heaps of brands out there who say their glasses float, but then they sink in the slightest chop. I have been testing ours in the surf and I can tell you, they are incredible!'
