Leukemia Cup Regatta - (Annapolis, Maryland).

The Maryland Chapter of The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (LLS) has announced the public events comprising the Nineteenth annual Leukemia Cup Regatta, which raises funds to support research into blood-related cancers. The Regatta, first organized in 1993 by the Eastport Yacht Club (since joined in that effort by the Annapolis Yacht Club) has spawned dozens of like events throughout the country, raising millions of dollars for research to combat blood cancers.

This year’s event commences with a Sailor’s Kick-Off for prospective participants on Thursday evening, March 31, at the Boatyard Bar and Grill in Annapolis. The public is invited to attend the event, which will feature munchies, drink specials and a special presenter: Gary Jobson, a world-renowned sailor, ESPN commentator, President of US Sailing and a lymphoma survivor, who will share stories and special sailing videos.

The sailing weekend itself begins on Friday, June 10th, with the SunTrust Sailor’s Launch Party hosted at the Annapolis Maritime Museum. The public is invited to attend with a donation of $35 per person. Complimentary beer and wine, hors d’oeuvres and an exciting live and silent auction will highlight the evening.

On Saturday, June eleventh, the regatta will be held on the waters of the Chesapeake Bay, off the shores of historic Annapolis. Last year, more than 91 captains and crew participated, and the LLS is looking to increase participation in 2011 for this CBYRA-sanctioned, high point event. This year also will feature the second annual J80 Fun Race and Launch Lunch, which will provide patients and families with an up-close and personal experience, as they take to the water on J80 sailboats for a taste of the exciting racing action.

After the regatta, all are invited to one of Annapolis’ best regatta parties, the All Hands Crew Party, held at the Eastport Yacht Club and featuring delectable food, libations (including rum bar), live dance music and the regatta’s closing ceremony. Tickets for the party are available at $35 per person. In addition, a limited number of 'weekend passes' -- providing for admission to both Friday and Saturday’s events -- are available for $60 per person or $100 per couple.
