SailLaser Weymouth will be hosting a special fundraising event, on Saturday 19th March, at the Weymouth and Portland National Sailing Academy (WPNSA).
The proceeds of the event will go to the charity Comic Relief, which aims to help transform the lives of poor, vulnerable and disadvantaged people across the United Kingdom and Africa.
As part of the Red Nose fundraising activities all sailors in the Dorset area are encouraged to bring someone who has never sailed before and introduce them to the thrill of the water. After a short introduction they will compete in a treasure hunt race on the 2012 waters.
The participants who will be sailing in ‘red’ fancy dress will be faced with the challenge of collecting as many letters off the buoys on the water as possible within one hour. The children will be aged between 7 and 15 with varying experience and hopefully lots of new sailors from the local community.
John Tweed, Chief Executive at the Weymouth and Portland National Sailing Academy commented, 'We are delighted to support SailLaser and the RYA OnBoard Club with the fundraising for the charity Comic Relief’s Red Nose Day. The facilities here at the Academy lend themselves excellently to the event with the slipway providing direct access to some of the best small boat sailing waters on the planet, including the sheltered waters of Portland Harbour making it perfect for new sailors or sailors with disabilities.'
