Palm Beach Sailing Club club championships Round 4.

Saturday 26th February saw the fourth round of the Palm Beach Sailing Club club championships conducted under ideal conditions - strengthening 10-15knts NE with clear blue skies and warm weather. A standard windward course with a slightly longer offset allowed for some fast reaches and gave the strong fleet of H16’s and one A class some great sailing. Five races were conducted between Mackerel Beach and Barrenjoey Headland.

With two of the current world champions (Rod and Kerry Waterhouse – World Masters Champions and Anthony Duchetel and Evelyn Curtis – World Grand Masters Champions) competing the racing was red hot. New up coming Youth team of Lukas Price and Josh Sing (who recently came second in the Australian Youth Championships) showed that they are a force to be reconed with by taking out first place in one of the five races and finishing consistanly high up in the field for the others. Newer members to the club continue to improve, and the competition across the fleet is now becoming more intense and the racing is tight with often many boats hitting the finish line within seconds of each other.

The club is focussing on development of youth sailing in the Hobie 16 class as well as strengthening the skills of its Hobie 16 fleet though Saturday morning workshops and winter training sessions lead by the clubs more experienced and recognised sailors.

There is also talk of the revival of the Hobie 14 class for 2011/12 season so dust off that old cat sitting on the lakefront or footpath and come on down for some fun next season. Watch the club website for more details www.pbsc.org.au
