The inaugural Wellington Optimist Team Racing Champs saw the cream of young sailing talent from Wellington and the lower North Island descend on Royal Port Nicholson Yacht Club to determine who would be the top club team racers in this part of the country. Forty eight sailors in twelve teams sailed a round robin format with some very close and intense sailing.

After the sixty races in the round robin phase six teams were identified as the top of the crop. Napier showed very good form to have their three teams in the top six with one of their teams qualifying for the finals as top seed. The battle between Muritai Yacht Clubs purple team and Worser Bay Boating Clubs Yellow team came down to the last race of the round robin with Muritai gaining the second seed position in the finals by one point. Worser Bay Lime team rounded out the top six finalists.

In the finals Napier White proved too strong for Muritai Purple and took out the 2011 title with a resounding victory in the sail off for first place to be crowned the 2011Wellington Optimist Team Racing champions.

Final results were:
1st Napier Sailing Club White Team
2nd Muritai Yacht Club Purple Team
3rd Worser Bay Boating Club Yellow Team
4th Worser Bay Boating Club Lime Team
