The James Boag Blockbuster Weekend 2011 - One of Tasmania’s largest multi class sailing regattas begins its second decade this weekend. Over fifty boats are expected to be racing on two course areas, on Saturday fifth and Sunday sixth of February, spread over Port Dalrymple Bay at Beauty Point.

The Blockbuster weekend was born out of the post Sydney 2000 excitement of Australian sailing’s double gold in
the 470 class. In February 2001 the Port Dalrymple Yacht Club enticed past junior member and new Olympic
Gold Medalist Mark Turnbull to return to Beauty Point, at the start of his new Olympic campaign in the 49er
class with Nick Partridge.

From those not so humble beginnings the James Boag Blockbuster Weekend has grown to be one of Tasmania’s
must do dinghy regatta's, attracting entrants from all corners of the State and Victoria on occasions.

The regatta has a unique format with five the invited classes all sailing over the same course area with separate
starts, this is the only regatta that sees this combination of classes racing together, providing spectacular action on
the water and a great atmosphere off the water.

As the James Boag Blockbuster weekend heads in to its second decade, it continues to grow with the support shown
by all contesting dinghy classes, and long-time sponsors James Boag, Tamar Marine, and Ronstan.

The racing format is four 15 – 20min races each day, sailed back to back, with separate class starts, the first heat
starting at 1300 on Saturday, with Sunday’s racing starting at 1200 followed by a regatta presentation after racing.

Invited and confirmed classes for the weekend are:

• B14 Class – The biggest Skiff class in Tasmania.
• Laser Class – will see a number of Tasmania’s top youth sailors fresh from National championships.
• NS14 Class – will see the State’s top NS14 sailors racing, as part of their traveler series.
• Sabre Class – back for their third year at the Blockbuster.
• Formula Windsurfer Class – an institution at the Blockbuster, big rigs on small boards stunning to watch.
