Sail-World.com : Bayview Mackinac Race 2011 - Race Updates

Bayview Mackinac Race 2011 - Race Updates

'Bayview Yacht Club'    Bayview Yacht Club - Detroit

Welcome to the 2011 Bayview Mackinac Race. It's an honor to be the Chairman for the 87th annual running of this freshwater classic, which attracts boats of all shapes and sizes, as well as sailors from across the world.

In the nine decades that the Bayview Mackinac Race has been sailed, much has happened. Wars, economic depressions, and other significant events have transpired, yet the Race has gone on. In fact, President Franklin D. Roosevelt wired a message to Bayview during World War II when word reached the White House that the Club was considering canceling the race.

That message read: 'Sail your race.' Even then, it was clear that this race was and is important for sailors and for the State of Michigan. Bayview did sail the Mackinac Race that year, and has done so every single year since the first Bayview Mackinac Race in 1925, making it the longest consecutively run freshwater race in the world.

In its own way, the Bayview Mackinac race has become a vital part of Great Lakes history, Michigan history, and sailing history. I hope you'll join us and make your own history for your boat, your family, your friends, and yourself.

NOR for 2011 Bayview Mackinac Race is available here

Race Committee volunteers still needed:

Looking to fill your time on the Island waiting for family and friends to finish?

Want to do something rewarding?

Want to be an critical part of the Bayview Mackinac Race?

Join the Race Committee! We are always looking for new, dedicated volunteers! Whether at Bayview, Port Huron, or on the Island, your help is always welcome.

There is no question that the Race Committee is a vital part of the Bayview Mackinac Race. Without an army of volunteers, the Race would never happen. What's more, our volunteers enjoy their work so much that they come back year after year after year.

No experience? Perfect! We can help and train you to do exactly what's needed.

Please email Kerrie at Kerrie(at)byc.com with your name, email address, phone number, and a brief description of what you may be interested in doing to help out and when you may be available. If you don't know what you want to do, we will be happy to guide you. There is quite literally something for everyone to do.
