The East Coast Piers Race was highly successful in 2010 and Marconi Sailing Club have again raised money for local charity The Cirdan Trust and the Essex Air Ambulance. The cheque for £12,750 was presented to The Cirdan Trust on Sunday 23rd January at Marconi Sailing Club by Simon Elwell.

Maldon based charity The Cirdan Trust provide sailing trips for youngsters from underprivileged backgrounds giving them an unforgettable experience on some of Maldon’s iconic Thames’ Barges.

The race held last July, saw catamaran sailors from across the country and Europe descend on the sailing club for a weekend of competitive racing, in the East Coast Piers Race and Colne Point Race. Over 75 competitors raced this year from the club in Steeple along the East Coast to Walton Pier and back again, competitors for the shorter course turned at Colne Point. Although the conditions were challenging towards the end of the race, two course records were set.

The 2010 winners of the East Coast Piers Race were Matt Humphreys and Luke Yeates from Weston S C. The winner of the Colne Point Race was Olly Harris also from Weston S C.

The 2011 race weekend will be on the ninth and 10th July.

Marconi Sailing Club couldn't raise the money without help from sponsors, helpers and the competitors so a big thank you to everyone involved.
